Are you ready to generate some or all of the electricity you need right at home? Are you ready to "go solar", but you're not sure where to start? Are you ready to tap that untapped local energy resource ... the SUN?
All across the United States, people are forming into groups and are using the "solarize" approach to enable the installation of clean and cost effective solar energy for distributed electricity generation. You can learn more and see examples of many successful solarize projects from the Community Power Network. (See "Solar Group/Bulk Purchase".) Also, view a short 3 min video about "solarize" concepts, from the US Department of Energy.
A "Solarize" program in your area will connect residential homeowners that are ready to install solar, with local, qualified installers and will take advantage of generous local utility incentives that are available for a limited time. This "group purchase" process will reduce anxiety typical with a large purchase and increase customer satisfaction throughout the quote and installation process. Plano Solar Advocate (PSA) volunteers are available to answer questions and help you get started based on their experiences. E-mail your questions to:
To help build the DFW area solarize network, communities are organized by counties in the boxes below.
Plano Solar Advocate (PSA) volunteers can assist, educate, and provide support for community facilitators to help them get started for their own projects.
Communities that have groups already formed are indicated by a "hyperlink" (bold blue underlined letters). Those cities that are not hyperlinked need volunteers to organize projects. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to our with your name, e-mail address, phone number, city, community (or area), and your zipcode, and it will be forwarded to someone in that area (county) who will contact you for follow-up.
Don't live in the DFW area of Texas? Check out Solarize Texas to learn about other solarize projects starting to shine all across Texas!
#1: How much does it cost to join?
Nothing. This is a grassroots effort. There are no "membership" or other fees.
#2: If I (we) join the "Solarize" in our area, are we obligated to purchase a system?
No. Enrolling in a Solarize group does NOT obligate you to purchase anything.
#3: What profit do the "solarize" volunteers receive from organizing these group purchase projects?
None. Solarize projects are 100% volunteer efforts. Volunteers don't receive any money from the sale or installation of the equipment.
#4: Why are "solarize" groups being formed?
To help accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar and to help homeowners and businesses obtain lower costs on solar energy systems.
#5: How do I get involved?
Check the table below (organized by county) for the name of your community. If it's "clickable", click it to go to the "Solarize" group in your area. If it's not clickable, it means there isn't yet a group started in your neighborhood. If that's the case, YOU could help start a group! Please contact Solarize Texas or Plano Solar Advocates for assistance.
Resource files, informational videos, and other materials to assist you in establishing your community "Solarize" program are found on our "Downloads" page.
Cities in underlined bold blue text are a link either to that respective group's website (if a site has been created), or is an e-mail link for the volunteer contact person ("Facilitator") for that community.
If you'd like to know whether a link is e-mail or a website, hover your cursor over the link and a small information window will appear with information about the link.
Groups are just getting started, and community links are being updated often, so check here regularly! Also .. if there IS a group website in your area, check their website frequently to stay informed of their meeting announcements and other details! The group "Facilitator" (a volunteer who has stepped up to coordinate a "Solarize" group in that community) can also keep you apprised of meetings and other information.
Cities that have no link are in need of a volunteer to act as an organizer. If no link is present for your city, please consider volunteering.
Hover your cursor over any link for information about that Group.
