June 9, 2012 NTREG Meeting - Solar Car Presentation by Liberty Christian High School.

The Solar Car Challenge is an annual educational event for high school students in the USA and throughout the world. Students design, build, and race a totally solar powered car. Some years the race is held at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. Other years the race goes cross-country to other states.

Our thanks to Liberty Christian High for displaying their car!
(Photos taken after the crowd had thinned out so we could see the car.)

Solar panel wiring yet to be secured.
Much work remained in June, yet the students completed the car in time for the July race!

View from the front of the solar car.
The solar panels appear incredibly long.

Very open cockpit area accommodates one student driver. Note the five-point seat belt!

The floor of the car was made from very light, very strong aircraft "honeycomb" board.

Difficult to believe this small motor moves the car up to 35 miles per hour!

NTREG members Amy (left, with handbag), Mellen (center), and Mike (right, plaid shirt). Members asked questions long after the meeting was over.

Headed home. A very high-class trailer for a very high-class solar car. Thanks again to Liberty Christian High for their terrific presentation!
