North Texas Renewable Energy Group - Event Photo Journal
2012 Methodist Hospital Cancer Center "Wild Ride Against Cancer" fun-run and bicycle race.
North Texas Renewable Energy Group members Mike Renner (NTREG Chair), Sam Little, and Dan Lepinski (NTREG Advisor) provided solar electricity at six different locations for the race. This was the largest number of independent solar electric systems NTREG had ever provided at one event. Mike, Sam, and Dan had to get up at 3:30 am to be at the race on time. Dan's solar shuttle provided early-morning power for the registration booths, starting at 5:00 am.

The Solar Shuttle set up and ready for action.
The day started out foggy, but the sun came out just in time for the race.
The main sound stage was 100% solar powered by the Solar Shuttle all day.
NTREG member Greg Rossell (left) and race organizer Clem Heick (right).
With more than 3,500 contestents in the bicycle race, this was a BIG event!
The line of racers at the staring point was about a quarter mile long.
One of the many rest stations. Mike Renner's solar trailer provided power here for entertainment and other needs.
1,500 runners of all ages and abilities also took part. This was the scene at the starting line as the race started.
Another rest area. Sam Little brought his solar trailer all the way from Weatherford to help provide 100% solar power for this rest stop.
Some racers were so tired it didn't matter where they put their bicycles.
Bicycle built for three. This wasn't the largest bicycle we saw.
Curious racers getting a closer look at Mike's solar panels.
Mike Renner's ever-present solar-powered water pump display (two-wheeled cart). It never fails to attract attention.
Solar panels doing double-duty. Electricity .. and shade for hot racers!
Another racer gets an up-close look at Mike's solar panels. (She's probably wishing they could power her bicycle!)
Solar powered entertainment at almost every rest stop!
Somebody has to watch the bike while the others head for the restoom!
Ready? On "three"... 1! 2! 3! Pedal!!
Solar panels weren't the only attraction. Take a look at these helmets!
This photo has it all. Mike's solar trailer, the entertainment, and his solar powered water pump display.
Now THIS is the way to ride a bicycle race! In comfort!
