North Texas Renewable Energy Group - 2012 Promise of Peace Event Photo Journal
Promise of Peace Community Garden is a non-profit organization seeking simple solutions for increasing high school completion rates and healthy life styles as a result of positive community engagement.
North Texas Renewable Energy Group members provide solar electricity for the Garden's events. There is no commercial electricity on their property.

A Nissan "Leaf" 100% electric car adds educational value to the event.
Nissan Leaf close-up under the hood. No engine! (Eyes and nose?)
Local vendors also participate.
In-ground gardens for larger vegetables.
Public address and music systems both need ac power. This is the presentation tent.
Mike Renner's solar trailer provides ample power for the 2012 Promise of Peace Garden event.
Plenty of room for expansion.
Promise of Peace Garden soundstage. The Ackermans provided the entertainment for the Garden's 2012 event. They also perform at Prairie Fest.
Attendance in 2012 was affected by cold, rainy weather. Good for gardens. Not so good for events.
Solar panels still make electricity when it's cloudy - just not as much as when it's sunny.
Table-top veggies grown by high-school students.
More container gardening.
Miniature greenhouse allows gardening in cool weather.
Another student-built greenhouse.
Strawberries! In mid-April! Benefits of the greenhouses and an earlier start to the growing season.
How many different veggies can you see here? Gardens are grown right to the edge of the lot.
Mike's solar trailer does double-duty. He thoughtfully included a demonstration of compact fluorescent and LED lamps, showing the energy consumption of each compared to ordinary incandescent lmaps.
The event was busier than the photos would indicate. What had been a vacant lot in Dallas now serves as community education center for students and residents alike.
