2010 Frito-Lay "Eco Fest"

Now and then our group members get to take part in activities that are a bit out of the ordinary. This event certainly qualifies. Frito-Lay is one of America's most enviromentally forcused corporations. Their "Eco Fest" is held annually at their Plano, Texas heaquarters for the benefit of their thousands of employees. Their Plano headquarters building is one of the most energy-efficient in America. Their Arizona facility (where "Sun Chips" are made) derives almost all of its electricity from solar power. It's a privilege to assist such a progressive company.

Dan's "Solar Shuttle" at Frito-Lay Headquarters.
Don't let the plain exterior of their HQ fool you.
2010042305.png
The Solar Shuttle provided 100% solar electricity for exhibitors and gave employees a chance to see an operating solar electric system up close.

Several antique vehicles were on display, including this 1939 John Deere farm tractor.
2010042308.png
This tractor is owned and was restored by a Frito-Lay employee. The sign says it was one of 60,000 produced, and sold new for $650.

The center of the building is a garden atrium, and is where many Eco Fest exhibitors have their tables.
2010042314.png
Green, green, and more green. The atrium includes a flowing creek!
2010042313.png
It's simply not possible to capture in one photo the total size of this open area in the center of Frito-Lay's Headquarters.
2010042310.png
The atrium is triangular. This is 1/3 of the exhibitors at the 2010 Frito-Lay Eco Fest.
2010042316.png
Walking to the other side of the atrium gives a view of the creek, a "mini lake" and a sense of the size of this mini-park in the center of the building.

Several hybrid vehicles were on display in the covered entry area of the Frito-Lay Headquarters.
