North Texas Renewable Energy Group - Event Photo Journal
2010 City of Irving Earth Day.
We tried something different in April, 2010 and combined our April meeting with Irving's Earth Day. Our meeting was held in the presentation tent. Noise from a vendor's generator just outside the tent made hearing a bit difficult for our meeting, as well as for the meetings that followed. (Sure makes you appreciate the silence of solar electricity!) On the cheerful side, it was brilliantly sunny. NTREG doled out solar-cooked hot dogs in return for donations to our Group! Frito-Lay donated assorted chips that we exchanged for additional donations. Everything was gone by the end of the day! Congratulations to Mellen, our "master chef", as well as to our entire cooking crew for a job well done - and hot dogs well done too!

The large solar oven (front) and the Sun Oven (rear) were more than displays. We used them to cook hot dogs all day as fund-raisers for our Group!
Mike Renner (NTREG Chair) explaining the sun oven (and the hot dogs inside) to a visitor. The hot dogs were so popular, we couldn't cook them fast enough!
We used two solar-powered crock pots (foreground) to cook baked beans and other goodies to go along with the hot dogs.
It was sunny, but it was windy too! The wind played havoc with the front of our tent and our literature much of the day.
Look on the table. Those aren't drinking cups. They're heavy glass insulators from old telephone poles. We used them as paperweights for our literature.
Jim Duncan (white shirt) talking with one of our many visitors.
The bounce-house in the background helped attract families to our area of the event. (It was generator-powered, so also a bit noisy.)
Jim Duncan (NTREG Secretary) resting his own "dogs". A person's feet get awfully tired after standing on them for several hours.
Jim's wife took over cooking duties when the guys fizzled out. (Way to go ladies!)
We had half of a large tent to ourselves (both sides!), and as you can see, our entire booth staff were busy! (Note the hot dog buns in the foreground!)
Four ice chests held hot dogs and other food items. It clouded up a bit just past noon, and slowed (but didn't stop) our hot dog "production line".
Blue and white striped "Presenter's" tent. Mike's red truck and solar trailer are in the background.
We were one of many exhibitors at Irving's Earth Day. The entire parking lot was full!
Visitor (black shirt) has just purchased a hot dog. The two women on the right saw him and headed over to do the same.
Would you believe this is a solar car?
It's a very light weight solar car, with a solar panel on the front, and another solar panel on top.
Dan's "Solar Shuttle" solar trailer powered Irving's Earth Day sound stage AND provided shade. Brave Combo, Grammy-Award winning band, is playing.
